About The Institute for Leadership Development

The Institute of Leadership Development (ILD) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, non-religious and nonpolitical organisation established to:
  • Develop leaders through training, coaching and mentoring
  • Propagate leadership knowledge and skills through research and dissemination of good practice
  • Recognise and reward success in leadership and leadership development by individuals and groups.
  • ILD works through a global network of affiliated organisations who share its vision, mission, goals and values

To realise its vision, ILD works with partners to:
  • Develop leaders and prospective leaders through training, coaching and mentoring
  • Propagate leadership knowledge and skills through research and dissemination of good practice
  • Recognise and reward success in leadership and leadership development by individuals and groups
  • Raise awareness and improve knowledge of corporate governance and public service, from an African perspective
  • Support leaders in their personal and professional development

Work & Partner With Us

The Institute of Leadership Development (ILD) is always open to collaboration and partnership with like-minded individuals and entities in pursuit of mutually agreed goals.

Membership

ILD is a membership organisation with SIX categories of membership (as determined from time to time by the Board of Directors, Governing Council and Advisory Committee) of the Institute:
  • Fellow (FILD): You have at least 10 years leadership experience and either a qualification at Masters’ Degree level (UK or its equivalent) or you have successfully completed the ILD Fellowship Course within 2 years prior to the application date or you have been invited to Fellowship by the Board and sponsored by at least 2 other Fellows.
  • Member (MILD): You have at least 5 years leadership experience and either a qualification at Bachelors’ Degree/HND level (UK or its equivalent) or successful completion of the ILD Membership Course obtained within 2 years of the application date.
  • Associate (AILD): You have at least 3 years leadership experience and either a qualification at Diploma/OND/NCE level (UK or its equivalent) or successful completion of the ILD Associate Membership Course obtained within 2 years of the application date.
  • Student: Registered full time student who is or has been in a leadership role (e.g. in the Student Union or class representative or prefecture) and has enrolled on an ILD Endorsed course. Student membership is valid for a maximum of 1 year from date of enrolment).
  • Companion (CILD): By invitation of the Board of Directors, Governing Council and Advisory Committee).
  • Patron (PILD): By invitation of the Board of Directors, Governing Council and Advisory Committee)
In all cases:
  • Candidates for membership must demonstrate a level of leadership competence acceptable to the Board, whose decision on any issue of membership is final.
  • Membership is subject to strict adherence to ILD’s Code of Conduct for members and candidates must sign an undertaking to this effect.
  • The Board of Directors, Governing Council and Advisory Committee may in its discretion confer any of the above titles on any individual or body corporate on an Honourary basis.
  • The Board’s decision on any issue of membership is discretionary and final. Benefits of Membership
